Situated on one of the most stunning parts of the swan river Majestic Point, this residence seeks to maximise the potential of its location and its amazing views across the river towards the Perth CBD. The program of the home is separated into public space and private space by feature white clay brick blade wall.
The natural fall of the site provides the entry, living, kitchen, bedrooms and bathrooms at ground level while the lower level features a cellar and purpose designed secure art store as well as a games area.
The client is an avid art collector so the design was approached with the intention of being a truly sculptural piece in the landscape. The ‘public’ wing of the house sits below an angular bird profile roof inspired by the local water birds. With large sections of highlight windows and the supporting structure set back the roof appears to float above the living space and kitchen extending the eye out towards the incredible view. A narrow entry funnels guests towards the living space before expanding out and framing the incredible view. As a contrast the private wing of the house sits beneath a simple mono pitch roof with the roof sheeting wrapping over the fascia and external wall to create a ‘clean’ appearance form the higher part of the block. From above a reference to “ A bird on a log’’.
